The problem needing to be solved

YMCA Canberra has never had a procurement function so our arrangements for buying goods and services do not always represent value for money. We have limited resources to address this (one Procurement Manager who works between procurement and another job) so setting up the function and doing the initial contracting work will take a long time. The help of a volunteer procurement professional would greatly help address this problem in a timely manner.

Responsibilities of the online volunteering project

Supporting the Procurement Manager to:

1. Get the function up and running in terms of governance, including helping to finalise the draft strategy, policy and procedure

2. Going to market for the identified quick wins including cleaning, groceries, facilities management, linen and consumables (including chemicals and sundry items). The Procurement Manager has started this process but needs help to continue and complete it, especially getting the RFPs written and then managing the evaluation of the submissions.

The benefit to you, the volunteer

You will get to use your procurement skills and experience to help a community organisation improve its practice and be able to provide more funding to important programs.
